More like a 4.5. It took me a long time to read this one and only picked it up after the sixth season ended. That being said, it is a MUCH more complex read than the show let on. Martin's descriptions are super in-depth, but the storytelling was engaging enough to keep me locked in. I don't think I'll finish the series until Martin publishes the final two books, but this one actually works well as a stand-alone, in my opinion.
