4.5

A rich and complex tapestry of a book, that weaves together a variety of stories from a wide cast of characters to create a truly incredible piece of literature. Evaristo masterfully writes each character with a depth and insight that means that, despite the regular jump from one person’s story to another, the storyline never becomes convoluted or overly confusing. It is the writing that makes this book such a triumph; the uniqueness of the descriptions, the subtle links between the characters’ stories, and the breadth of society that is covered within one long narrative is truly beautiful.
