I feel disappointed. I read it trying to become a better pet parent, but I didn’t read anything new. Everything stated in this book, I already knew. This not being my first book on ethology even some of the studies and conclusions she mentions I’ve read before. Also, the parts that refer specifically to dogs weren’t very informative either, I’m not taking anything with me after reading this. My purpose wasn’t fulfilled. There’s nothing here that drives me to change my behavior towards my dogs, or a way to make my dogs’ lives better. I don’t have a better understanding on dog behavior than I had before, and I didn’t have to spend a year of my life researching dogs to figure out all of that. Lastly, I was very bored from very early on, I was forcing myself to continue just so I could finish it.
It may be a fine read for people who literally don’t know ANYTHING about dogs or have never been around one, but I could’ve done without it.
