Crónica de una muerte anunciada by Gabriel García Márquez

5.0

Kicking, jumping, rolling, crying, shitting, punching, dying over this rn. I had to physically get up and jump around while reading the last three pages. Brutal.

This is very different than the Gabriel I am used to in his shorter works, or in his longer ones that heavily use the magical realism he’s so known for.

This piece of his is real, in that it is an actual recollection of a tragic event that took place in his small hometown. But in its ‘realness’ still persists the air of magic that real life sometimes has. Real life coincidences that feel almost as corny as poorly written literature. In this case, these coincidences play out for a very morbid crime. A crime which almost feels like was committed by everyone in the town…

So so so big time recommend this read! If read in Spanish I recommend the copy I logged since it has very helpful word explanations to some caribbean and colloquial Colombian spanish.
