Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

5.0

"In the morning when the Sun returns. It's possible for us to have hope."

It was the year that artificial friends were a hot trend. Klara is unlike any other, her heightened observational skills sets her apart from the other AFs. Sitting from her spot in the store, she observes everyone that pass by. Until one day she meets Josie, a sick teenager who took a liking to Klara. Taking up the role of a caretaker and friend, Klara did her best to make Josie happy even if it means giving up her own happiness.

During the times when Josie's health deteriorated, Klara desperately chases after the Sun to ask for him to save her and that she'll do anything for Josie. But when Josie does get better, will she still need Klara the same way as she does now?

From the start to the end, it has been a wonderful journey. I loved Klara so dearly and all I could think was 'Klara is so precious! She MUST BE protected at all cost.' - I was even worried that something bad would happen to her. I don't usually find myself enjoying prize winner novels but this is one I LOVED. It was easy to read; no complicated concepts, a fixed set of character casts; supportive ones even! and of course, when artificial intelligence does good and wants good for humanity unlike how other stories tell.
