The Soccer War by Ryszard Kapuściński

5.0

A brilliant work. Strangely unclassifiable. Part reportage, part personal notebook, part self-mythologization, part political analysis, part poetry. At the most generic level of description, a work of nonfiction from various war-torn and troubled places in Africa and Latin America, but somehow both more and less than that. At times finely particular, and at other times broad to the level of general cycles of history. Always startling, with the frisson of the real.
