29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life by Cami Walker
3.0
This book is not great literature, but the story is so touching and compelling. Author Cami Walker, in her 30's, is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis shortly after her wedding. Her life is profoundly affected as she deals with physical limitations, pain and depression. A friend, a medicine woman, gives her the prescription to give 29 gifts in 29 days. This book is a diary of those gifts and the results and side-effects.
"It's clear to me that often the simplest gifts carry the most meaning. The small gestures that show people you care. A kind word instead of keeping quiet. The smile you chose to break free for someone you don't know. The sincere gratitude you express to someone for assisting you in some way. The spare pennies - or spare tissues - you chose to pass to someone who needs them more than you do. I've been giving small gifts every day for a week now, but in the scheme of things I feel way ahead." (53)
The gifts are to be given mindfully, with intention and thought. One is to keep a journal for the 29 days.
I have begun my own 29 gift journey, by giving Cami's book to a friend.
