Young prince Patroclus is exiled after accidently killing another boy, and he ends up with king Peleus in Phthia. Despite their differences, the king's son Achilles seems to enjoy his company. They become friends and Achilles chooses Patroclus as his brother-in-arms, a great honor. As they grow up their friendship turns into something deeper. When Helen of Sparta is kidnapped, Achilles is forced to go to war to fullfill his destiny as the greatest warrior. Patroclus is no warrior, but chooses to follow the army to Troy.
This is pure magic! I don't think you have to love greek mythology to enjoy this beautiful love story, but if you do, it's just icing on the cake. I own a physical copy of the book and I was planning on both reading and listening, but when I started to listen I couldn't stop. Frazer Douglas does a great narration and it only took me a day and a half to finish. Since the language is so poetic and beautiful I'm glad I have my physical book, because I definitely want to read it again at some point!
