When I began this book I had expectations of greatness for I loved "Americanah" and "We Should All be Feminists". But this was not like "Americanah" at all. This is a coming-of-age book about kids who live in a home with a religious father who is kind and generous to his community and not so kind to his family. I'm not going to say more except that I spent a lot of time really sad. The writing is skillful, especially for a debut novel so I finished it. The narration is excellent and I'm glad I listened to this.
