The Black Jacobins: Toussaint L'Ouverture and the San Domingo Revolution by C.L.R. James

challenging informative slow-paced

5.0

It is easy to see how this book is considered a classic. The Black Jacobins shows just how essential the Haitian Revolution (San Domingo) is not only to the Revolutionary Era but to history as a whole. When it comes to the Revolutionary Era, Haiti is clearly the true "foundation." While you may become lost in some of the details as this is a very academic read, this is purposeful and the research is extensive.
