The Unwanteds
by Lisa McMann
i think if i had read this a year ago, before i had read a bazillion books, i would have loved it. but now, my standards are a little higher. honestly, the last 20% of this was a solid 4 stars. but i found that throughout the book, i just didn’t care. and it’s really sad because i think that this came up just short of me loving it. i think there are two reasons this came up short:
1) the characters weren’t likable or unique. they were just pretty basic. they weren’t intolerably basic, but they just needed a little more pizzazz.
2) it was nearly impossible to connect with the characters. i think this was mostly because the mc was pretty bland, but also, it’s written in omniscient pov. so, you get inside everyone’s head, all the time. books written like this are just kinda hard to love because you’re constantly jumping from one person to another, with no separations (like chapters dedicated to each pov).
so yeah…this totally could have been amazing, but its stuck with a
