Girlhood by Cat Clarke

4.0

I had completely forgotten that I added this to my want to read shelf back in 2018, because it took so long for it to finally show up on Bookshare, but I stumbled across it again yesterday and decided to finally give it a go. I liked it very much, though it wasn't at all what I expected from the synopsis. I don't know that I found the ending entirely satisfying, but I'm also not sure what ending would have been. Despite that, there were so many of my favorite things here. Boarding school setting, secrets and lies, teenage girl friendships that are messy and flawed but also rock solid and devoted, slightly toxic relationships between girls, etc etc. And writing that flows easily and is engaging and funny and realistic to the way teenagers speak and think. I've read a couple of Cat Clarke's other books and enjoyed them, but this is definitely my favorite so far.
