Normally, I think that anyone can read books targeted at any age group, but I actually felt too old for this book. It's light and fluffy with some much-needed representation for nonbinary and hard-of-hearing folks, but the story structure really bothered me. Nothing is set up or foreshadowed, so nothing feels like a payoff. Convenient solutions happen throughout the story, with new information being introduced to make those solutions suddenly possible. In this way, the narrative was too juvenile for me, the work of novice writers. But this is a very personal problem; many other people find Mooncakes to be delightful and charming and a beautiful queer romance.
