In short, I was quite surprised, even though it contains many similar elements seen in multiple novels, the characters gave me a much more mature impression. This specific way of narration was captivating, it allowed me to live each experience in a very personal way. The plot kept me entertained, which I appreciate. And the end, even after being unfortunately predictable, seemed like a suitable cut for the whole journey.
As a final point, I must mention a considerable difference with the film, which is the loss of its central conflict, due to the idea of a youth without control, while the book speaks of an authoritarian government that spreads fear and mistrust in its population.
