Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake
by Sarah MacLean
This was a refreshing romance. Although not entirely new in plot it was refreshing in the sense that the heroine seemed normal. Although she was titled and wealthy, she wasn't otherwordly in her beauty or personality. She was described as plain, although her too-large eyes and plump rounded lips and figure made me imagine her as an everyday curvy woman - which I have to say I loved, because eventhough for the time it was unfashionable to be curvy, for this day and age, I think it's a sign of beauty. The heroine had everyday insecurities and yearnings and the author did a great job of making Callie seem vulnerable bu tough at the same time. She had flare and I liked that. The chemistry between hero and heroine was great and there were quite a few moment, especially towards the end that had me sighing. The emotions between the two were heartfelt and engaging. A great read from a new author. The only thing that had me shying away from rating this book an outright 5, is that I felt there was just a little something missing. Maybe I wanted more insight into Gabriel, maybe I like my heroes a bit more tortured :0, he had the makings of a great hero, but something just didn't click for me in that area. I would definielty recommend this read though.
