Rest Stop by Nat Cassidy

“The God whose first commandment isn’t kindness or empathy, but THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GOD BEFORE ME.”

What a weird & strange little novella that turned into something so deeply personal. I love how Nat’s brain works & his ability to create something meaningful out of complete chaos. I wasn’t sure at first how to feel about this one, but halfway through I could feel how deeply personal this story actually is to the author. The last two chapters plus the acknowledgements had me quite literally weeping. There’s a paragraph about god in the last little bit that actually took my breath away. That anger and the suffocation of religion…how it’s bled into society. Thoughtful, provocative, funny, strange, and gory. Just how I like it. Highly recommend bumping this one up your TBR!
