It kind of felt like a whole lot of nothing happened for the first 60% of the book if I'm being completely honest. While I loved being able to see beloved characters in the first bit of the book, and the adventure they went on in the caves, it was a lot of wariness and dancing around each other that for the most part felt like a way to just kill time/pages. I loved Ithan's character development, and it was clear from the moment in the den that that was what was meant to happen for him. The relectuant hero trope was really reluctant hero-ing unfortunately. It made me want to grab his shoulders and just shake him out of his moping lol. The last 20% of the book was great. Very action-packed as is common from SJM. I was NOT expecting that plot twist about Lidia but honestly I should've at this point.
