Haikyu!!, Vol. 02 by Haruichi Furudate

3.0

I want this four stars because I just love this story so much (I've already finished the first two seasons of the anime), and this is the point where the action and camaraderie really picks up. However, I'm not a huge fan of the translation in this volume. There were plenty of awkward phrasings that made it difficult to understand what the characters were talking about as well as a few grammatical mistakes.

In most places, the sub of the anime is worded better and I don't know if that is just because of different translators or if the dialogue of the anime was edited differently in the original Japanese as well. However, I also don't know how much this would have bothered me had I not seen the anime first, and I think that in this case the story might have overcome the issues I noted above.

However, I haven't decided if I want to keep reading these volumes after seeing how much better I think the anime is, both because of the dialogue and added scenes. The little character sheets between the chapters in the manga are a lot of fun, as was picking up on little differences in the individual images between manga and anime.

One thing I did notice though (in a side by side reread/watch) was that this volume does have less swearing the anime, if that is a factor for anyone trying to decide whether to read or watch.
