A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore

2.0

I don’t know, I guess it’s possible that Christopher Moore’s humor just isn’t for me. I happened to love Lamb, but the other few that I’ve read I haven’t enjoyed, and this one less than the others. There were some parts of it that were problematic at best and offensive at worst. Like having the Chinese character say every verb in present tense, and pointing out that they didn’t pronounce any r’s. And I must’ve read the terms “alpha/beta male” at least once per page on average, which is entirely too much.

As for the story, it was fine but I wasn’t really into it. It’s hard when the other books that I’ve read with Death as a main character took place within Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, and nothing can compare to that. The characters were super one-dimensional and I honestly can’t remember laughing at all during this book. It might be time for me to give up on Moore and just let Lamb be the one book of his that I love.
