Family Family
by Laurie Frankel
This is a very ambitious novel and I appreciate that the author sought to de-stigmatize adoption. I found myself disagreeing with a lot of the main character’s decisions and in the end I don’t think I really liked her. However, I liked how the author wrote such vivid characters - some I liked, some I didn’t understand, but they all felt real to me. I especially enjoy Frankel’s sense of humor - often subtle, sometimes poignant. I listened to this book and the narrator was great, but sometimes I had a hard time following what was happening, but I think that’s par for the course when novels jump around in time like this one does. This book made me think about my own opinions and biases and beliefs many times. This is what I love about reading and I look forward to discussing this book with my fellow reader friends someday!
