Real Americans by Rachel Khong

3.0

Real Americans is an engaging multi-generational novel that takes on thorny questions of race, fate, heredity, and more. It's a big swing for 400 pages, and in the moment, it's an enjoyable read.

The novel, though, takes a few short cuts (wild coincidences and questionable character decisions) with plot, and I think how much you're willing to go along with the author on these plot points will probably be the main factor in how much you enjoy the overall reading experience. At least that was the case for me, and I wasn't totally on board.
