When I suggested The Enchanted April for book club I had no idea that this was basically Women's Fiction circa 1922. My reading experience was a bit of a roller coaster. I would go from smiling from ear to ear, to laughing out loud, to being bored by the constant repetition of being told that the characters were sweet/old/gorgeous, and then back again. In spite of the book's shortcomings, I became invested in the happiness of our four main characters and was ready to bitch-slap their respective boorish husbands. Overall, once I accepted that this was not literary fiction, it was an enjoyable read.
