Funny Story by Emily Henry

emotional funny hopeful medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
I have finally read my favorite Emily Henry book. I enjoyed her previous work - I read them all and clearly asked for more. My biggest issue was that the conflict in her earlier books was way too small for the size of the feelings that her characters had experienced as a result. That often left me rolling my eyes and holding my appreciation for the characters in my hands like a traveler without appropriate luggage.

Emily Henry has established herself as a master of rom-coms. Her signature blend of wit, relatable characters, and swoon-worthy romance  shined in "Funny Story."

The premise is intriguing - a jilted bride thrown together with her fiancé's best friend's ex in a small-town setting? Cue hijinks, witty banter, and unexpected connections waiting to blossom. Add in Henry's talent for crafting humorous yet heartfelt characters, and "Funny Story" is a laugh-out-loud rom-com delight.

The library, small town, and small place setting of it all made this book incredibly cozy. Reading during a snowstorm made it a perfect setting.

Thank you to Berkley for my ARC. This one is a gem.
