This book was just... fine. I wanted a lot more from it. The mystery wasn't super engaging or gripping, the romance was heavy on the characters having a history but not much going on in the present, and the world-building wasn't super thought out. There was a lot of potential in this novella but I think this would have been better as a full length novel to give more time to all those components. One thing I really didn't like was how inept these characters came across, I just rolled my eyes so much at their internal thoughts. I also feel like the mystery didn't have a lot of interesting details going on so there were no hints or crumbs for the reader to find. In general, I just had a hard time caring because this book was so middle of the road.
