When I read this was a age gap novel, I really wanted to read it. A huge bonus, is that Eve is also a preacher's daughter and just graduated high school. Kyle moves in next door with his young son, Josh. Kyle is 10 years older than Eve. Although this is the 2nd book in a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Eve is lost and free at the same time. Eve reminds Josh a lot of himself. Eve is not worried about getting in trouble at all. Eve is a pretty funny and snarky character, especially for a preacher's daughter. Eve becomes very close to Kyle and Josh because she babysits Josh a lot. Josh is attracted to Eve but knows the consequences of what crossing that line could cost. Kyle is also a little broken from a past relationship. These 2 together is inevitable, kismet.
At first I thought this novel was sweet, funny, taboo, and tempting. However, I was not at all prepared for the very real but dark turn this novel took! I'm talking almost made me ugly cry! I thought at a certain point these two were hopeless, in the worst way. I did absolutely love this novel, though. Without the darkness, this novel would've been too sweet.
I did not read the first book but this makes me want to go and pick up Sarah's book immediately. I don’t entirely know what Sarah did to get kicked out of the preacher's house, but that she chose love over her family. In turn, that still affecting Eve and her family in a major way. I think it probably made the father much more strict.
I read this entire book in one day because I couldn't put it down. Definitely 5 stars, for me. I loved that this novel is set in the 1980's and each chapter corresponds with a epic 80's song. The funniest thing was when Eve's mother asked if she was a virgin. Eve's response funny and priceless, as long as your not Eve's parents. Give it a try, if any of the above speaks to you.
I received a advanced copy of this book and voluntarily left this review.
