Truly captivating. I was wholly immersed in it. Sarah Waters creates amazing, complex characters, and plot twists that never fail to surprise the reader (or at least me). I read mostly Victorian literature, and I loved how this one being a contemporary read had in it the power to transfer the feeling of that age. At the same time, reading mostly Victorian literature, I'm used to one  event happening between every 100 pages of inner struggles and descriptions. So the amount of things happening here left me exhausted by the end of it. The best type of exhausted.
The story is briliantly built up. It has so many turns and twists that it is hard to summarize the story without giving it away. I was just excited to read about lesbians in Victorian age, but this piece is so much  beyond that.
