Days in the Caucasus by Banine

adventurous funny informative reflective

3.5

First published in French in 1945, this is a memoir in the classic sense. A remembrance and examination of a period from one's life placed in the context of family and culture. Many recent memoirs tend towards self-absorbed trauma narrative. The back cover blurb - "By turns gossipy and romantic, wry and moving, Days in the Caucasus is a coming of age story and portrait of a vanished world."
