There are a number of things to like about this book: Anna as a lead is easy to connect and feel empathy for her story, the magic system and world is interesting and slightly different in some ways to what I've read before.
The pacing made part of the story drag for me. The abuse is graphic at times and yet we spend ages focusing on teenage girl spats which feel like a shame game. The book really leans into slut shaming and for me, it never really addressed that as being wrong.
I don't think I'm intrigued enough by to continue with the series.

Graphic: Physical abuse, Child abuse, and Emotional abuse
Moderate: Misogyny and Murder
