Reynard the Fox: A New Translation
by Willem die Madocke maecte
Wonderful read! I liked how Reynard the Fox was a reversal of the traditional animal fables, where they would exhort the reader to be virtuous. The history of Reynard the Fox, however, seems to encourage the reader that cunning and clever lies are the order of the day. Reynard's character echoes strongly with that of Odysseus and Loki - all tricksters that you can't help but like and root of, despite some of their actions being questionable.
Would definitely recommend for anyone fond of classic trickster folklore.
