magsnotmugs 's review for:
It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth
by Zoe Thorogood
⭑ - Unrated
I was reading some of the reviews and I find it kind of funny that a lot of it was sort of foreseen in the graphic novel itself; 'relatability', 'divided goodreads reviews' and whatnot.
I don't think I can give this a rating even if I wanted to, because this is not a story or a lesson with a message like any traditional book, it's an account of someone's life, a journal, a medium of expression we were allowed to see. It just is what it is. What would I be rating? Someone's emotions? Their lived experiences? When have we started giving stars to people?
'You get five stars for overcoming your depression and finally getting your shit together and therefore providing a nice resolution, well done' or 'You have three stars because there's room left for self-improvement' or even worse 'You have one star because it's all very bleak and pretty self-indulgent and narcissistic', like no shit Karen, it's an auto-biographical graphic novel by someone with depression, wtf did you expect? World peace? A miracle cure at the end?
This is a review about reviews tbh.
