Kathy is abducted from the front yard of her home, while her mother is keeping a relatively close eye on her. 15 months later, she’s found wandering the streets of Jasper, 4 hours away from her hometown of Bethelville. She’s emaciated, in tattered clothing, with bloody, bare feet, and no coat. The effects of her kidnapping has ripped her family apart and reduced her mother to a shell of her former self. A couple of weeks after Kathy returns home, her parents begin taking her to see Robin, a child psychologist, to help Kathy adjust to being home. Claire, Kathy’s mom, hopes Kathy won’t be so afraid of everything. Kathy’s dad, Pete, wants her to be able to return to school as soon as possible, thinking a return to normal will help her “move on.” Robin’s goal is simply to help Kathy process what she has seen.
Through play, Kathy shows very graphic scenes that link to recent crime scenes and put the heat on a very deranged criminal and his accomplice, whose prime objective is to get Kathy back and complete one more horror scene for his final act.

I really enjoyed reading this book! The story proceeded at a steady rate, no slow spots. Unique storyline. Torn between 3 and 4 stars.
