Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

It was hard to put down this book, and I’m so glad a good friend of mine encouraged me to read it. As much as I can enjoy a fantasy book, I always hesitate to read them because occasionally I struggle to enjoy them when the world within the books is TOO overwhelming with all kinds of magic, fantastical beasts, and numerous humanoid races to keep track of. But that wasn’t the case with this book. This book has all those elements, but no so much so that I found it hard to follow. There were even parts of the book when I actually forgot it was a fantasy book because the story focused on this assassin’s somewhat cloistered experience in the glass castle as she competes in this tournament. There’s also just enough lingering stares, flirting, and kissing to keep things interesting, but not so much as to call this book smutty. The murder sites and fighting scenes are described as violent and gruesome, but not so much so that it made me nauseous. I guess the shorter version of this review would simply state that this book was a fairly balanced mix of many aspects that make a story fun to read. I am very much looking forward to reading the feast of the books in this series.
