Ice Dogs by Terry Lynn Johnson
5.0

Victoria Secord is only 14 years old, but she's already a competitive dog sledder thanks to her dad. He taught her everything she needed to know about dogs and racing. Having recently lost her father, she's determined to win the next big race for him.
When she hears that a neighbor is getting ready to sell some of his champion dogs, Victoria knows she has to get there first to try to get a good deal. Her mom doesn't take her seriously though, and wont allow her to go. As soon as her mom leaves the house, she loads up her dog sled and a few of her dogs and sets out, forgetting to check the weather as she leaves. It isn't til later she notices the heavy clouds moving in. She needs to get to the neighbor's quickly, but all of that goes out the window when she finds Chris, a city boy who has wrecked a snowmobile and doesn't know his way back home. It's up to find a way for them to survive the storm and get back home.
This book combines so many of my favorite things: survival, adventure, family, dogs, blizzards, Alaska. There is even a moose! It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite books growing up, My Side of the Mountain.
