In this unlikely-lovers millennial Hallmark-esque story, Opal wins the lottery and, on a whim, purchases a flower farm. Here, she meets Pepper, who actually lives there and was unaware of the sale. In an extreme case of U-Hauling, the two decide to live together until they find a solution.
First off, I love Pepper. How many miscommunication tropes could be solved with a neurodivergent character simply asking people to explain how they feel? Hands down, Pepper was the best part of this book. I loved her passion for her flowers, her quiet strength, and lovable grumpiness. Opal, who is also on the neurodivergent spectrum, is bubbly and energetic and moody. There was nothing inherently wrong with Opal, but I found her chapters to be a bit cringey.
Overall, this was a cute fluffy romcom centered around an idyllic flower farm. Certain elements, such as Opal’s people-pleasing tendencies and Pepper’s less than stellar parental relationship, were extremely relatable to me. I enjoyed seeing the character development here, and definitely got some things that I needed out of this story.
