Alone with You in the Ether by Olivie Blake

5.0

I remember reading something online “it’s a quiet book. it will mean little to some and very much to others” (not verbatim, I couldn’t find the original post anywhere), and I think this is the best description I could find of this book.

I can definitely understand why some people aren’t fond of it. It can be messy, inconsistent, and almost incoherent in some moments (definitely had to reread a few parts to properly understand them), but I found myself enjoying its untamed style and narrative. It’s refreshingly raw and emotional. I couldn’t help but be ridiculously invested in the characters’ lives and rollercoaster of a story. It’s also so intimate and beautifully written. It was like I could feel the characters’ yearning, love, and pain alongside them (there are so many good quotes, it’s insane).

Overall, reading it was truly a beautiful and different experience, and I loved every moment of it. Plus, a book is definitely a 5/5 for me if it has me thinking about hexagons and theoretical mathematics longer than I thought I was capable of.
