Tea with the Black Dragon by R.A. MacAvoy
Did not finish book.
The fact that this describes Mayland as "oriental" and "a ch*naman" is unforgivable. There's a lot of other general racist descriptions that corroborate that the author seems to genuinely think has no problem. It's also just poorly written and snobby.
I'd normally forgive authors for being a little pretentious... but this seems like it was written by someone who graduated with an English degree in 1967 but didn't know how to write anything other than dialogue, and the dialogue is still snobby and filled with references to dead white men that rich people thought should be taught in school at some point.
I thought I would push through it so I could just add it to the list of my books read this year, but it is genuinely such a boring and disgustingly racist piece of text.
There is nothing redeemable here that I've been able to find, nothing that makes me want to finish it.
