This book made me feel weirdly nostalgic. There was something about the simplicity of the plot and characters that reminded me of the books I used to love when I was younger - It was very much a YA fantasy book...This is by no means a bad thing. I love YA fantasy, even though I've been reading less of it this year, and this book had so many of the tropes I'm used to.

The best part for me was the powers and worldbuilding, and I wish we would've spent more time getting to know the world and magic, but the glimpses were had were wonderful. I also wish the monsters felt more monstrous and less like "humans who have supernatural abilities", but I liked the morality of the powers and how they used them.

Overall it was a quick and easy read, although it was a bit slow for the first sixty pages.
