Naked Truth: Diary of a Glamour Model by Vicki Rebecca

Growing up I was always aware of glamour models.  It was the age of Page 3 girls, Nuts magazine and accompanying TV channel, Jordan, Caprice, Lucy Pinder, Jodie Marsh. And at the same time as admiring them for being brave enough to have the boob jobs and, as I thought then,  stand up to the patriarchy by choosing to model top less. And I'm sure that for some of them it really was a free choice,  and they really did enjoy what they did. There was also an attitude of "nice girls don't do that", they were 'other', 'lesser', not like me, uneducated and so on.  Of course I realise now that none of that is true.

As such I started this book with some preconceived ideas about what it would be about. Oh boy was I wrong!

Vicki's story is raw and heartfelt and honest. It's not an easy read.  It made me laugh, cry and hurt for the child Vicki was.  It's about so much more than modelling, although it perfectly shows the darker side of that seemingly glamorous world.

Vicki's strength and determination are a real testament to her character.  I'm so pleased I chose to pick up this book.
