If you are able to get through book #4, you are rewarded in book #5. Book #4 broadens the scope of the war throughout Westeros and beyond to include the perspectives of many smaller characters, and in book #5 you see how these characters and their reasons for fighting contribute to the path of the story. We normally miss out on these details when focused on just one or even a handful of characters, but in Martin’s most recent book in the Song of Ice and Fire, we see that the trajectory of the world is up to more than just them.
