The Exeter Incident by David Watkins

dark sad tense medium-paced
Ever since reading an initial description of this book, I have been intrigued. I was happy to receive an advance copy to read and review. It did not disappoint! This book definitely has the “Monster of the Week” feel of some of my favorite shows with a hidden species that has been secretly feeding on humans for centuries, but has only now become a visible enemy. The power of this enemy is both devastating and awe-striking with teleporting bracelets and destructive shields. The plot is quite action-packed containing a large cast of characters who are compelling and believable. There is a lot of graphic bloodshed, but it just adds to the overall impact of the story. Again, I love books that paint pictures for me (I know I talk about this a lot), so I don’t mind an extra paragraph or two to set up a scene. The author does an excellent job of this, which can be difficult with such a unique story, but I could visualize each interaction as if I were watching it take place in real-time complete with setting. A very captivating story that I encourage you to pick up!
