Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

5.0

easiest 5 star of my life. a new favorite of all time. sitting here SOBBING. audiobook was amazing for this (i listened while reading physical) if you had told me prior to starting this book that i would be laughing out loud and crying reading a sci-fi book i wouldn’t have believed you because i’m not typically a sci-fi reader. when i tell you i had to continuously stop myself from reading because i had to post something about how much i was loving this book. it is just so perfectly crafted. the sci-fi elements are so accessible because we’re following a main character who wakes up not knowing who he is or what he’s doing on this mission. and throughout the book, even though the scientific parts might be difficult to understand at times, it’s explained SO WELL because the main character himself is re-learning and figuring everything out as you go through. not to mention how funny i thought the main character was omg. i rarely laugh out loud reading but genuinely some of the conversations and reactions that happen were hilarious. but the best part of this book was the characterization. just incredible and the way you end up caring about these characters is crazy. i cried four separate times reading this, can’t remember the last time that happened to me. ALSO they’re making a movie adaptation with RYAN GOSLING as the lead and the director/producer of the SpiderMan Into The SpiderVerse movies…... as if you needed any other reason to pick this book up NOW.
