The novel is well written and easy to read, with a bloody, unsettling atmosphere that works. The author manages to keep the story coherent and really makes us feel Charlie’s fear.

But… given the book’s reputation, I was expecting something far more radical and disturbing. I’d been sold an “unbearable” read, yet I never felt it reached that level of extremity. The result: a certain taste of disappointment.

In short: a good read, but not the shock I was hoping for.
