Extremely informative and enlightening book about the cruel experience of being a human who is treated as property, as an asset to be used as collateral, as an item to be bequeathed in a will. The most terrifying aspect of this is how the entire system was designed to reinforce this even in states where it was illegal, even in communities where decent people despised this practice. The Crafts had to leave the entire North American continent to finally be free. They were both courageous and lucky. I'm so glad I read this.
