and after 700 pages, I realized I would've much rather read a general history of the 60s and 70s in American foreign policy than bits and pieces of American foreign policy history organized around this dudes life. Isaacson shows his biography chops, but I don't think the subject outshines the context, who also, it should be mentioned, is kind of an asshole
