The Little Friend
by Donna Tartt
This book took an infuriatingly long time to finish. I usually love Donna Tartt's prose and appreciate her slow methodological way of building the world and characters. Yet I feel like with this book she just waffled for 500 plus pages. If you removed half of this book you would still have the exact same story just a lot more interesting. I unfortunately did not feel attached to any of the characters, even Harriet annoyed me throughout most of this book. There were too many side characters and plots that just felt dull and uninteresting. Tartt does still manage to capture that childlike view of the world, and there were some beautiful descriptions of the world. I just wish she condensed this a little bit.
