The Magicians by Lev Grossman

3.0

Interesting in its portrayal of a magical world stripped of glamor, but ultimately forgettable when placed against other magical stories. The unfortunate consequence of Grossman's fly-over storytelling is that there is little emotional investment for the reader. The world and characters are ultimately flat, and the narrative is just too rushed. Although I'd say the book was good as a whole, by the end I was as disenchanted as the main character.
