ek1992 's review for:
I'm Glad My Mom Died
by Jennette McCurdy
dark
emotional
funny
hopeful
lighthearted
reflective
sad
fast-paced
Although this memoir is quite sad and intense, Jennette’s ability to wrap it in lighthearted reflection is masterful. Her retelling is honest, open, transparent, and holds nothing back.
She’s forthcoming with some embarrassing moments throughout her childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Many of these recollections are moments most of us would want to keep private - body image struggles, sexualization, puberty, naïveté, etc. Much of what she offered up resonated with my experience as an adolescent girl into my young adulthood.
I appreciated her candor and humility.
