A  friend of mine gave me this book after she read it and told me it is one of her favorites. Lately, I have been looking for translated fiction and reading about cultures unknown to the Western world. The Book of Fate is a banned book in Iran and Parinoush Saniee, the author is a person that worked in the Ministry of Labor, how unorthodox.
The Book of Fate is the story of a country seen through the life of main character, Massoumeh. While I was reading the book I was thinking what else can a human being endorce?
Massoumeh has the the power of sacrifice at its highest pick, the mark of a war, of traditions, of community for families and especially women in Iran.
Made me realize that things that I get for granted in my life could be so hard to achieve for others.
The story is is heartbreaking. Massoumeh went through so much turmoil and heartbreak that it’s unbelievable that this all happened in one lifetime. She deserved so much better, but even in the very end, she was never given her basic human rights.
The truth is I had hard time with the ending, I felt her children are ungrateful for all that their mother suffered to give them the good education and life and that's how they repay her. On the other hand I am not from the same religion and mentality and I can not truly judge the cercostances based the Muslim, and Iranian way of life, tradition, reliogion.
