The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

2.0

I read the free chapter sampler first and, liking it, thought the book would be an interesting one to read. I'm a fan of science fiction/fantasy and I'd read a couple of glowing reviews. Plus, I thought it could possibly be one my students might like, and I wanted to check it out before the school year began.

My reaction? Meh.

Yancey addresses some intriguing questions in the book (What makes us human? How can you fight for humanity without losing your humanity? etc...), and there were parts that I liked a lot. But there were also parts that I skimmed past to get to those other parts. And there were parts that made me want to hurl my Kindle across the room. Do we have to have romance in EVERY YA offering? Seriously?

I don't think this will be one of the books I add to my classroom collection.
