Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

dark emotional mysterious sad tense

4.0

Mexican Gothic is a really well-written gothic horror novel which will creep you out in just the right way. If you’re into it I highly recommend it.
The only reason that it is not a full 5 star read for me is that I felt like the first half was slow burn and the second half felt a bit rushed compared to the first, the pacing is a bit off. Moreover I didn’t really click with with the main character Noemí, but that wasn’t that big of a problem. I simply feel like I would’ve loved Mexican Gothic even more if I did.
All in all Silvia Moreno-Garcia gave me the best creeps and implemented one of my favourite organisms into a carefully crafted horror setting.
